Summary

This was an industry first with service to hundreds of hospitals across North America, providing ECG interpretations 24 hours each day. Downtime was very small. At the time that I worked there, there were less than 20 people.

This was before the internet and foreshadowed online connectivity to users. The computer handling all the tasks described in this series of articles had an instruction cycle time on the order of a microsecond. The memory on each of these was 32k of four-byte words. Today, your watch has more compute power, possibly by an order of magnitude.
